Gels (ISSN 2310-2861) is an open-access journal published by MDPI, established in 2015. The journal is indexed in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and SCIE (Web of Science). Currently, the editorial board of Gels comprises 165 renowned scholars from around the world. The journal focuses on publishing research achievements in physical (supramolecular) and chemical gel-based materials, including research papers, reviews, and short communications. Scholars are encouraged to submit detailed experimental and theoretical results. Gels employs a single-blind peer-review process. According to statistics from the first half of 2024, the average review cycle is approximately 10.9 days, and the time from acceptance to publication is only 2.9 days.

Based on the Journal Citation Reports released by Clarivate Analysis on June 20, 2024, Gels has achieved a latest impact factor of 5.0, ranking in the Q1 category in the "Polymer Science" field of JCR. Its latest CiteScore is 4.7.

Gels primarily publishes research related to gel materials, covering (but not limited to) the following areas: organic gels, hydrogels, and ionogels made from low molecular weight compounds and/or polymers (i.e., physical (supramolecular) and chemical gels); composite and hybrid materials where metals are incorporated into the gel network (i.e., metallogels); xerogels; colloidal gels; gels formed from solvent mixtures; computational modeling of these materials to better understand gelation mechanisms; synthesis, characterization, and applications of the aforementioned materials; and the synthesis of non-gel functional materials using gels as raw materials.
